ArchitectFormentera / Spain
he study began its activity in February 2002 with the first projects of public and private initiative in Formentera. The connection, respect and commitment to culture, landscape and the territory of the smallest of the Pitiüsas islands was instrumental in the professional-personal orientation chosen. Formentera island is experiencing a rapid urban development characterized by large volumes of construction but with poor architectural quality, which contrasts with the exceptional value of the natural substrate and its characteristic architecture. Given this dynamic, raises a small office structure, self-sufficient, almost craft, capable of assuming a very low level of intervention and with the sole intention of offering a product that responds to the reality where it’s conceived. To tackle larger scale projects on time or extend the geographical boundaries of performance, has opted for decentralization through external collaborations with other studies. Formentera has historically opted for a model of occupation very sparsely scattered, and in this context the isolated family home has been the most common program to solve. Term interventions carried on revalued assets have been few, but very grateful to the research phase, which in one case has helped to improve understanding of how that was influenced by human Formentera. On the slopes of the disclosure-publications, the studio has worked with publishing projects and exhibitions in order to disseminate both the background property on the island as those contemporary interventions generated with reflection.
